Listen to the landscape
Waves, rain, birds, rivers, wind and the small sounds of the landscape, recorded outdoors in the places where they happen.
An independent Devon project
Still Devon is an independent collection of original field recordings, natural soundscapes and quiet films made around Devon. Every recording starts with time spent outdoors, listening closely to a real place.
No narration. Little or no music. No artificial nature sounds. Just time spent somewhere real.
Made for sleeping, reading, working, mindfulness, reflection, or simply taking a few minutes to slow down.
How it started
Still Devon grew from years of hikes, walks and days out in the landscape, and from a simple appreciation of what happens when you spend a little time somewhere quiet. The coast, the moors, woodland, rivers and changing weather have always been part of the inspiration.
Alongside that came a natural interest in recording technology and sound: how a microphone can capture the character of a place, how subtle environmental sounds can disappear in everyday life, and how a recording can let you return to a moment even when you're somewhere else.
Still Devon brings those two interests together — the outdoors and the technology needed to listen closely — to create simple, authentic recordings and quiet films from Devon.
The idea
Still Devon is about giving you somewhere quiet to go, even when you can't get outside. Take five minutes away from a busy working day. Put on some natural sounds when you're settling down to sleep. Or spend a little while exploring the peaceful side of Devon.
There is no narration to follow and no need to do anything. The recordings are made to stand on their own, with natural sound left at the centre.
Waves, rain, birds, rivers, wind and the small sounds of the landscape, recorded outdoors in the places where they happen.
A few minutes away from screens, noise and busy routines can make a difference. These recordings are made for slowing down.
Explore the coast, countryside, woodland, rivers and moorland through natural sound and quiet film, wherever you happen to be.
